Clear Aligners
No one can tell you have braces with clear aligners.
If you dislike the look of traditional metal braces, you may be interested in orthodontic treatment with clear aligners. Invisalign® is one of the most popular brands of clear aligners. This type of treatment works by using multiple customized sets of clear plastic aligners, or trays, to move your teeth to their desired positions. Each set of upper and lower trays move your teeth to a slightly different position. The trays are worn for at least 22 hours a day. They are removed only to brush, floss and eat. Each set of trays are worn between 1-2 weeks before you switch to the next set. When you are satisfied with your smile at the end of the treatment, you will receive a set of retainers to keep your teeth in place.

What to Expect
Initial Appointment
You will meet with Dr. Parul Sangwan, our board-certified orthodontist, to discuss your smile goals and dental history. If you choose to proceed with clear aligners: x-rays, digital scans, and intra-oral/extra-oral pictures will be taken. This information will be sent to the aligner manufacturer, e.g. Invisalign.
Aligner Fitting Appointment
After a 2-3 weeks, your customized aligners will arrive at the office and you will need to come in to fit them. If you require special attachments, Dr. Sangwan will place those on your teeth. Finally, she will go over instructions on how long to wear each aligner, when to switch to the next tray and care instructions.
Follow Up Appointments
Dr. Sangwan will schedule you to come in about once or twice a month (depending on your case) to follow up on your progress and ensure your teeth are moving as expected. The timing of these appointments will vary depending on your specific case.
Final Aligner Appointment
When you reach your final aligner, Dr. Sangwan will check in with you on your results. If you are happy with the results, you will be scanned for a set of retainers. If you would still like more movement, then additional aligners may be ordered and you will resume follow-up appointments until you finish the additional aligners. You will only move on to the next step when you are happy with your results.
Retainer Appointment
When your retainers arrive, you will need to come in the office to remove any attachments and Dr. Sangwan will help fit your final retainer. She will give you instructions on wearing your retainer and let you know if any additional follow-up appointments are needed.

How do I know if I'm a candidate for clear aligners?
Every treatment starts with a consultation with our board-certified orthodontist. At this initial visit, Dr. Sangwan will discuss your smile goals with you and take x-rays, photos and scans of your teeth and jaw to determine if clear aligners is the best treatment option to achieve your dream smile.
What orthodontic problems can be treated with clear aligners?
The following orthodontic problems may be treated with clear aligners:
- Underbite
- Overbite
- Open bite
- Crowding
- Minor gaps in between teeth
- Misaligned/crooked teeth
What problems may be harder to treat with clear aligners?
The following orthodontic problems may be more difficult to treat with clear aligners:
- Extruded or intruded teeth
- Large gaps in between teeth
- Tooth shapes/positions that may be hard for aligners to grasp
- Existing dental work like implants, bridges and crowns may prevent aligner use
